The design, testing and validation processes for electric vehicles (EVs) adapts to the growing popularity and sophistication of EVs. In the past, prototype testing through road trials was the go-to method for engineering teams. In the modern world, advanced simulation technologies allow for a great deal of ‘work’ to be achieved in a virtual space.

This webinar is focused on showing students, engineers and other professionals how to work with EV simulations. It addresses modern tools, techniques, and their applications pretaining to electric vehicle development.

Importance of Simulations in EV Engineering

There is much more that goes into an electric vehicle than just the battery and the motor. It is an entire ecosystem. Everything – from energy management, and thermal management, to battery safety and vehicle-to-grid integration – needs to harmoniously function. Physically testing each of these systems individually is incredibly tedious, time-consuming, and costly.

Simulations solve the problem of studying behavior under varying conditions of a system without actually building it. Engineers develop virtual models which expedite the process of developing reliable, cost-effective, and safe products.

For instance, you might wish to model the thermal behavior of a battery pack, how the motor responds to changes in load, or how the entire automobile performs with different driving habits. You can also explore the consequences of certain malfunctions — for example, if a battery fails — without endangering personnel or equipment.
